Frequently asked questions
Which pays sellers more, StockX or GOAT?
At the standard rates — StockX Level 1 against GOAT's usual commission — StockX pays more at every price: its 12% all-in undercuts GOAT's roughly 12.1% + $4.86 effective stack, so the gap is about $5 on typical pairs and worst on cheap ones. Seller-tier discounts on either side can narrow or flip it, which is why every rate here is editable.
Why does GOAT take more despite a lower commission percentage?
The extras. GOAT's 9.5% headline beats StockX's 9%+3%, but the flat $5 seller fee and the 2.9% cash-out charge on your remaining balance stack on top. Worked through, GOAT's effective take is about 12.1% of the price plus $4.86 — the flat portion is why a $60 pair loses nearly $5 more on GOAT while a $500 pair loses only slightly more.
Do StockX seller levels change the answer?
Materially. StockX's transaction fee steps down with sales volume — from 9% at Level 1 toward about 7% at the top tiers — which widens StockX's lead to roughly $9–10 per $200 pair for high-volume sellers. GOAT similarly reduces commission for sellers with strong ratings. Enter the rates from your actual seller dashboards; tier defaults flatter nobody's real payout.
What costs does this comparison leave out?
Shipping to the platform (both provide prepaid labels for verification shipments, but policies and regional charges vary), currency and payout-method differences, and — most importantly — realized prices: the same shoe often clears different amounts on the two order books. Check both platforms' live bids before assuming the fee gap decides the venue.
