eBay fees = sale price × final value fee % + $0.30 per order. For most categories the final value fee is 13.25% on the total the buyer pays (item plus shipping), with a $0.30 fixed charge per order. Sell an item for $40: the fee is $5.30 plus $0.30, so $5.60 total — you keep $34.40 and the effective rate is 14%. Category rates range from about 3% (heavy equipment) to 15% (most media), so enter your rate to get your real number.

Is the final value fee charged on shipping?

Yes — eBay calculates the final value fee on the total amount of the sale: item price, shipping, handling, and sales tax collected from the buyer. Offering $1 items with $20 shipping stopped working when eBay made this change. Enter the full amount the buyer pays in the price field to get an accurate fee.

Which categories have different final value fee rates?

Most categories sit at 13.25% up to $7,500 (then 2.35% above), but exceptions matter: books, movies and music run around 15.3%, athletic shoes over $150 pay 8%, guitars around 6.35%, and heavy equipment about 3%. Do eBay store subscriptions lower these fees?

Often, yes. Basic and above store tiers reduce final value fees in many categories — commonly a point or more — plus free listings and quarterly coupon perks. Whether the monthly cost pays for itself depends on volume: at 13.25% versus 12.35%, a $21.95 Basic Store breaks even around $2,400 of monthly sales in those categories.

How often do eBay fees change?

Regularly — eBay adjusts final value percentages, category exceptions, and the per-order fixed fee (currently $0.30 for most orders, $0.40 under managed payments changes in some regions). The defaults here reflect common 2026 US rates, but both fields are editable: check eBay's current fee page for your category before relying on the margin.
