Amazon fees

Amazon Referral Fee Calculator

The commission Amazon takes off the top of every sale — before fulfillment costs even start.

Referral fee = selling price × category referral rate. Amazon charges this commission on every marketplace sale, whether you use FBA or ship yourself, and it applies to the full price the buyer pays. At the standard 15% rate, a $25 sale costs $3.75 in referral fee, leaving $21.25 in proceeds before any fulfillment or product costs. Rates vary by category — 8% for consumer electronics, 17% for clothing — so enter your price and your category's rate to see the exact take.

Frequently asked questions

Is the referral fee charged on shipping too?

Yes — Amazon calculates the referral fee on the total sales price the buyer pays, including any shipping or gift-wrap charges you collect. If you charge $25 plus $5 shipping, the 15% fee applies to $30, not $25. Merchant-fulfilled sellers who treat shipping as pass-through revenue routinely understate their fees this way.

Do all categories pay 15%?

No. Fifteen percent is the most common rate, but categories diverge: consumer electronics pay 8%, clothing and accessories 17%, Amazon device accessories 45%, and several categories carry a per-item minimum (often $0.30). Grocery runs 8% below a price threshold and 15% above it. Check your exact category in Seller Central and enter that rate here.

Is the referral fee the same as the FBA fee?

No — they are separate charges that stack. The referral fee is a sales commission every seller pays regardless of who ships the order. The FBA fulfillment fee is an additional per-unit charge only FBA sellers pay for pick, pack, and shipping. A $30 FBA sale typically loses $4.50 to referral and another $5–6 to fulfillment.

How often do Amazon referral rates change?

They do — Amazon revises category rates, minimums, and price-tier thresholds periodically, and new categories get added with their own schedules. The 15% default here matches the typical 2026 US rate, but the field is editable for a reason: confirm your category's current rate in Seller Central's fee schedule before pricing a new product around it.
