Product URL Slug Generator

The URL is the first thing search engines read about a product page — make it say something.

A slug is the readable tail of a URL — /blue-denim-trucker-jacket — and search engines treat its words as a relevance signal. Good slugs are lowercase, hyphen-separated, accent-free and short: "Levi's® Blue Denim Trucker Jacket (2026)" should become blue-denim-trucker-jacket, not levis-blue-denim-trucker-jacket-2026 with encoded symbols. This tool converts product names in bulk — strips diacritics and symbols, collapses spaces to hyphens, lowercases everything — producing slugs that double as Shopify handles. Paste a list, get a list.

Frequently asked questions

Do keywords in the URL slug actually help SEO?

Modestly, yes — slugs are a confirmed lightweight relevance signal and, more importantly, they earn clicks: a readable slug in the result looks trustworthy. The real win is avoiding negative signals: encoded characters, ID-only URLs and keyword-stuffed slugs all read as low quality.

Should I change slugs on products that already rank?

Rarely. Changing a URL costs you its history unless you 301-redirect the old address, and even then some signal dulls. Use this tool for new products; fix old ugly slugs only when you can redirect properly and the slug is genuinely bad.

How long should a product slug be?

Three to six meaningful words. Drop brand boilerplate, years, sizes and marketing filler — they belong in the title, not the URL. Shopify caps handles at 255 characters but nothing near that is ever a good idea.

What is the difference between a slug and a Shopify handle?

The same string in different roles: Shopify calls the slug a "handle" and uses it as the product's unique key in URLs, themes and APIs. This tool's output is valid for both — lowercase, hyphenated, symbol-free.
