Frequently asked questions
What are the current title limits per marketplace?
Working numbers (verify per category): Amazon 200 characters hard cap with many categories recommending 80–150; Etsy 140; eBay 80; Walmart ~100 recommended; Shopify page titles are unlimited but Google displays only ~50–60. This tool tracks each separately because one title rarely fits all.
Is the Google limit really 60 characters?
Google truncates by pixel width (~580px), which lands near 50–60 characters for typical text — wide letters truncate sooner. Treat 60 as a practical budget, front-load the keywords, and check how the title reads if the tail disappears.
Do character limits count spaces and punctuation?
Yes — every platform counts spaces, punctuation and symbols as characters. Some (Amazon especially) additionally restrict specific characters like emoji and ALL-CAPS words, which can suppress a listing even under the length cap.
Why does my count differ from the marketplace editor by a few characters?
Usually invisible characters: pasted text often carries non-breaking spaces, smart quotes or trailing whitespace from documents. This counter counts exactly what is in the box — paste as plain text and trim the ends to reconcile the two.
